What is a Crisis Chaplain?

ree

Honestly, I would prefer not to have the title of chaplain. I am not clergy, a pastor, etc, but I have a desire to be available for people at the time of crisis.

I know how valuable it is to work through the rollercoaster of emotions a person can have during a crisis and how important it is to do it as soon as possible. Trauma affects everyone differently, and taking a minute to walk through it together can give insight to benefit from.

I believe if I had someone work through the emotions I felt after the Coal Seam Fire in 2002, I would not have struggled with panic attacks. God did send help I needed, and through my counselor, God helped me realize I needed to let go of control and let Him heal me, but it was months later. Yes, I have a story to share and a heart for others in crisis, but I have learned that confronting the trauma early helps to relieve the stress.

Even if you don't feel you need it, someone else may benefit from your experience, and sometimes the stress of the event can sneak up on you.

If you are in the midst of a crisis, reach out. It's not therapy, it's just talking and sharing your experience.

My prayer is for us to understand it's okay to feel the way we do, and to come together and support each other during a crisis.
